Fat Transfer

Autologous fat transfer is designed to remove the fat from one area of the body, usually the abdomen, and transfer it to an area that requires reshaping in order to achieve better body shape and contour, usually the breast or face. It is also know as fat grafting or fat injections

The fat cells taken from one part of your own body are injected back into the desired area such as the cheeks, lips or chin replenishing the skins collagen layer, smoothing lines and wrinkles and plumping out the treated area.

Who is it for?

The most common areas for fat transfer treatment are frown lines and crows feet. They can help fill out deep facial wrinkles, creases and furrows, sunken cheeks, skin depressions and some types of scars. They can also be used to add a fuller, more sensuous look to the lips.

A consultation regarding the risks and limitations of surgery will help you to choose a procedure that will meet with your expectations.

Considerations

The fat transfer operation is very quick and your length of stay in hospital will be determined by the extent of surgery as discussed at the initial consultation although it is usually a day release procedure.

As with any medical procedure there can be side effects. Most people experience some swelling and redness for the first 24-48 hours. Itching and mild discomfort is not uncommon. There is no risk from allergic reaction because the fat transfer is harvested from your own body. Infection is extremely rare and if needed antibiotics will be given for 5 days.
